CITAZIONE (Kiory @ 1/7/2014, 12:40)

CITAZIONE
The thought of a "SNK vs. Square Enix" sounds very enticing as the possibilities for awesomeness truly are endless, but this isn't exactly what we had in mind...

SNK has filed a criminal lawsuit against Square Enix for the latter's usage of intellectual properties without consent. According to Siliconera, Square Enix has incorporated numerous characters from SNK IPs into their popular manga series, High Score Girl -- a manga series that focuses on arcade gaming and features a variety of video game characters.

The infringement first surfaced when the company contacted SNK Playmore to discuss usage of SNK characters and music in the anime adaptation of High Score Girl. Apparently, SNK's content was already being used in the manga this entire time without proper consent.

Although the specifics of these violations have yet to be divulged, SNK claims that over 100 instances of characters from King of Fighters and Samurai Showdown were used throughout the manga.

SNK allegedly attempted to contact Square Enix, but stated that they did not receive an appropriate response. As a result, the company decided to take legal action, filing a criminal lawsuit against Square Enix through the Osaka police back in May.

This past Tuesday, the Osaka police raided the Square Enix office in Tokyo, as well as other parties who have allegedly committed copyright infringement. The case is currently under investigation.

CITAZIONE
20 years ago, on August 25, 1994, the fighting game genre was irrevocably changed when SNK released The King of Fighters '94 for its MVS arcade system.

KOF94 was the first fighting game ever to feature characters from various different titles crossing over into the same universe for an epic dream battle -- an idea that would later make its way into other major fighting games franchises, including Capcom's Vs. series, Super Smash Bros., and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of SNK Playmore's KOF franchise. Unfortunately, it looks like the fighting games maker has nothing to announce on this momentous occasion.

But it isn't complete radio silence on the SNK fighting games' front; today the trademark_bot Twitter account has uncovered a number of noteworthy trademark registration filings that SNK Playmore has recently made.
- The Last Blade (Gekka no Kenshi)
- The King of Fighters
- Maximum Impact
- Athena Asamiya (note: this was filed earlier in 2014 as well)
- Beast Busters (a rail-shooting game franchise)
- Others (pachinko, mahjong, etc)

Granted, a trademark registration alone does not really mean much. But given that one of SNK Playmore's filings earlier this year was eventually released as an actual game, we may be hearing more about about these franchises in the near future. A 3D King of Fighters game is in the works, after all.

And since the Osaka-based games maker has actually made several filings for "Athena Asamiya" logo designs, there's a very good chance that a game or smartphone app of some sort starring KOF's pop idol psychic kung-fu pugilist would see the light of day.

e 2 RPG sempre per cellulari: Monster King e Great Adventure! Sister Quest.

CITAZIONE
It’s official, SNK Playmore is bringing The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match and The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match to Steam. The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match is scheduled to come out sometime in November followed by KOF 2002 Unlimited Match in December.

Before both of those King of Fighters titles, Metal Slug X will have its Steam debut on October 3. Also Metal Slug 3 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita is slated for release this winter.

It looks like most of SNK Playmore’s new games are being made for smartphones. They have an Athena Asamiya RPG slated for release on iOS and Android in early 2015. Two more RPGs, Great Adventure! Sister Quest and Monster King, are also scheduled for early 2015. Beast Busters featuring KOF, an action shooting game, is set for November 2014.
