| CITAZIONE Team Ninja held an event on Wednesday Dec. 7, 2011 in San Francisco and one of the playable games on hand was Dead or Alive 5. While the event was press only, players from FreeStepDodge and TKPlayers have done their best to gather whatever impressions they could from those who were able to go. From the impressions people could share, the game seems to have an “advanced hold” system for use against mid kicks and punches in additional the existing 3 point hold system. This is apparently an attempt by Team Ninja to make holds/parries accessible, yet still add a deeper layer for more advanced players. Also new is a system for stage interaction. It seems that the players gets a quick-time-event style scenario where hitting a button at a certain time leads to a different, damaging reaction. SReaction to the system has been somewhat negative (with most comparing it to MK vs DC‘s mini-games), though some players do admit to wanting to know more about the system before actually passing judgement. The biggest question right now is if hitting the buttons correctly only lessens damage, or if it allows for an outright reversal (so far, only the former has been seen). On a different note, reaction to the game’s new graphical style seems pretty positive. Folks are enjoying the somewhat dirtier, grittier look compared to the cleaner look of the old games. Praise seems to focus on how the characters get dirty as the fight goes on and as they take damage from the environment
